Opportunities to go deeper

Changemakers Book club

Following the event, the Ella Baker School of Organising (EBSO) would like to invite you to join their Changemakers Book Club.

The idea is to get together to select and read social action, community organising, radical transformation and theory of change books.

We’ll get together online to explore and discuss the ideas, and how to use them in our organising and wider communities. The first session will be on Monday 31st March at 6pm.

If you can’t make Monday, but you’d still like to join the bookclub, you can fill in this expression of interest form, and we’ll be in touch soon!

Defeating Narratives of Division

EBSO have also received some funding to deliver the training for free on Defeating Narratives of Division in Birmingham. Many of us are concerned about the scapegoating of refugees, Muslims, migrants and those labelled as ‘other’. Instead of us tackling the real issues, we’re made to turn on each other, which is leading to further division in our communities.

None of us want to live in a society where there is hatred and distrust between people and the diverse communities. This course will look at how we can challenge these narratives, and bridge divides, creating a ‘story of us’.

EBSO have arranged for two online ‘Defeating Narratives of Division’ taster sessions. One is during the day and the other in the evening (they are both the same. Here are dates with the links to register if you would like a peek into the full course:

The full course will take place in-person on Thursdays at the end of May / start of June:

  • Thursday 22nd May – 9.30am-4.30pm Course session 1
  • Thursday 29th May – 9.30am-4.30pm Course session 2
  • Thursday 5th June – 9.30am-4.30pm Course session 3

Please register for the day training sessions. The venue details will be shared after registration.

Witness against Reform UK rally

Peace Hub does not generally offer support or opposition to any particular political party. We are letting you know about this action, as we are concerned about the normalisation of racist rhetoric and policy in politics. You are invited to take a stand against the platform that will be given to these ideas at the Reform UK rally, due to be held in Birmingham this week.

Birmingham United Against Racism protest at 6pm on Friday, 28th March, outside the Utilita Arena (the old NIA in Birmingham city centre) to witness against hate and for hope, unity, and solidarity. After the protest there will be a short march to Centenary square, where from 7 – 9pm a Unity Rally will be held featuring musicians, drummers, and speakers.
