Thu 3rd Apr 2025, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm
at The Priory Rooms, BirminghamTogether with the Ella Baker School of Organising, we will be introducing a new book Changemakers, radical strategies for social justice organising by Jane Holgate and John Page.
Join the book’s authors and organisers from across different social justice movements to dig into how we become more effective Changemakers.
We will explore: key themes within the book; how those themes interact with the knowledge and experience of organisers from different social justice movements; and how we go beyond protesting to resolving wrongs.
Doors open at 6:30pm with refreshments, the event starts at 7pm.
*You don’t have to buy the book to join the event, but copies are available at a discount price of £10.50 when you book in advance. At the event, books will be available for £14.99.
Speakers include
- Mahmooda Qureshi – programme coordinator and policy advisor for the Faith and Belief Forum, and a staff member at EBSO. Her work involves breaking barriers between faith and non faith based communities working towards a just society for all. You can also catch her on ‘Connecting Communties’ a local radio show.
- Rob Johnson – regional policy and campaigns officer at the Midlands Trades Union Congress, leading on taking unions into the community, and securing commitments from employers around key health and safety campaigns. He is also a councillor for the West Midlands Combined Authority.
About the book:
“Crafted for those who dare to challenge the status quo, this is a radical guide for activists.
Drawing from frontline experiences in trade unions, environmentalism, animal rights, and social justice movements, the book explores essential themes from leadership to the art of negotiation. It asks crucial questions about organising and social movements in the 21st century.”
