Fairtrade Fortnight: Come On In!

26th February – 11th March 2018 is Fairtrade Fortnight!

According to the Fairtrade Foundation: “Fairtrade Fortnight is a fun-filled highlight of the year, when campaigners, businesses, schools and places of worship show their support for the farmers and workers who grow our food in developing countries.”  And as always Peace Hub is joining in!  The theme this year is “Come on in to Fairtrade” – check out the short video above for more information.

The people who produce our tea, coffee, chocolate, bananas and many other goods work hard to supply the food that ends up on our tables.  But often they aren’t paid what they deserve for their hard work – sometimes not even enough to cover what it cost to produce the goods.  Fairtrade can help change this by paying farmers a minimum price for their goods, ensuring decent working conditions and paying an extra Fairtrade premium to invest in their business or community.

Our current theme Think Global, Act Local, Get Equal is all about linking up how the everyday choices we make about where we shop and what we buy, add up to make a big difference to inequality.  And you don’t have to choose between supporting local businesses to help the Brummie economy, or supporting farmers and producers in the developing world through Fairtrade: Carrs Lane Fairtrade shop is the best of both worlds!  Sample a selection of their goods at Peace Hub, or pop down to Carrs Lane for the full range.

Throughout Fairtrade Fortnight, you can pop into Peace Hub to:

  • Find out more about how Fairtrade helps producers around the world
  • Grab a complimentary Fairtrade cuppa
  • Buy Fairtrade snacks

You can find what others are doing throughout Fairtrade Fortnight, and share your own stories using #FairtradeFortnight.  So go ahead and get stuck in – and choose Fairtrade!
